I've been to the Mountain Top

Last Speech

The link is to a speech done by Martin Luther King Jr. the day before he was assinated. What was the message? How can it relate to our lives now? Why was the government afraid of him?

I feel that Dr. King message goes beyond our color of our skin. He saw a government that was not set up to benefit the people. He wanted blacks and whites people of all different creeds to become united to stand up and go against our country. The government if its wants to maintain the status quo, they have to divide the masses. Once divided, we lose focus of the big picture, and Dr. King was well on his way to reminding us. In today's society, we live in a time where corporations steal money from their employees, spend their pension and the CEO's make on average 440 times the amount of the average employee. Our government no longer serves our people and if we do not try to create change, the very freedoms we value will be taken from us, and like Rome, our country will fall apart.
